44% of households spending R1 001–R2 000 a month on groceries are the most likely to switch brands when prices rise, driving the broader trend where 39% of township shoppers change brands in response to cost increases.
27.5% of township households spend between R501 and R1 000 a month on data. This group represents the heavy users who see connectivity as essential for work, learning and daily life.
Taste is non-negotiable for township diners, with 73% saying they won’t compromise on flavour. Most spend between R50 and R99 per meal, making value and taste the winning combination.
Stokvel membership has surged to 71% of township residents in 2025, up from 51% in 2023. This is a 39% increase in just two years, showing the growing reliance on collective saving.
